Daily Prayer: Wed, June 30

Psalm 121:5-6 The Lord is your keeper;
the Lord is your shade at your right hand.
The sun shall not strike you by day,
nor the moon by night
.

Holy Spirit : Breath of God, You can refresh the human spirit and give new life to the fellowship! Have mercy now upon people suffering in the heat wave out west in Canada, and other places. For many, this weather is dangerous, for some, a disaster. I ask for blessings among those who suffer, and those who work to help mitigate the situation.

Fire of God, the Bible imagery of flames is just as much of hell as it is of You and Your glory. May I look to You with enough confidence in Your caring love, that I may never fear the eternal ‘lake of fire.’ And may I be one who gives real hope to others who fear things after death. In the name of Jesus the Saviour. Amen.

Daily Prayer: June 29

Recorded in Luke 13:4-5, Jesus said: “Or those eighteen who were killed when the tower of Siloam fell on them—do you think that they were worse offenders than all the others living in Jerusalem? No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all perish just as they did.”

The collapse of a large building in Florida was alarming news, dear Master, and I pray, as the search through the rubble continues. Also, today, may construction workers be blessed, as they do their hot summer work. May they be protected and guided to be safe in the workplace, constructing safe buildings.

There are friends around me now who are seeking a place to live – some have had to move, and finding a new place to call home is not easy! O Divine Architect, O Home of our souls: bless those who seek to settle down, and perhaps You can bless me to help them out a little bit. Amen.

Daily Prayer: June 28

Isaiah 61:3 …He has sent me to… give them… oil of gladness instead of mourning, the mantle of praise instead of a faint spirit.

Prince of Peace, yesterday was Canadian Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Awareness Day. You, Jesus, You fulfill the promises that were hopes in Isaiah 61. You read from this scroll in Your home synagogue. You are willing to walk with those who have been traumatized, and make order out of disorder. Bless those many people who face PTSD, and all who are their helpers and healers.

I pause in prayer to be quiet before You, and see where there is disorder in my own life. Where my thoughts and emotions are hurt; where I have been injured and could come closer to You for healing. Where I could use the help of others whom You have placed close to me. Thank You, Jesus, for being the healer of every ill. Amen.

Worship at Home: June 27

WELCOME to this worship resource for our last Sunday apart! There is also a Sunday bulletin, posted here, and delivered to some local folks who do not have access to the internet. Today, we use sermon and scripture from the resources provided by our faithful servants of Canadian Baptist Ministries.

 We plan to have our service online only on June 27 again, and then meet in person Sunday, July 4th. When we meet next Sunday, we plan to transfer and receive into membership June Haight: this is another notice of meeting for next Sunday morning.

Also on July 4th, let us take up a love offering for Pastors Roy and Lori Berteaux, who lost their Clementsport home to fire a couple weeks ago. Take a look at our bulletin, with more information for prayers, events, and services.

Psalm 47:1, 2, 6, 7

Clap your hands, all you peoples;
shout to God with loud songs of joy.
For the Lord, the Most High, is awesome,
a great king over all the earth.

Sing praises to God, sing praises;
sing praises to our King, sing praises.
For God is the king of all the earth;
sing praises with a psalm.

PRAYER of Approach & the Lord’s Prayer

God of truth and love, You are worthy of nobler praises than we can offer and purer worship than we can imagine. Nevertheless, we come to You, and seek to worship You in Spirit and in Truth. May the overflow of Your love make allowance for the inadequacies of our lives. Enable us to worship You in sincerity and lovingly in [this service]which we share together. Through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen. (A Manual for Worship and Service: Prepared for Canadian Baptist Churches, 1984, p. 88, adapted)

PRAYERS of the People, from the website World in Prayer.

BENEDICTION You are ambassadors for Christ, God makes His appeal through you. Go into all the world on behalf of Christ, and challenge its people to be reconciled to God. (Adapted from 2 Cor. 5:20 in A Manual for Worship and Service, p. 119) In the name of God: Father – Spirit – Son. Amen.

Daily Prayer: June 23

Psalm 139:13 For it was you who formed my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

Spirit of powerful perfection, You are Lord of all creation. All the world is spectacular evidence of You, and inspires me. And my self is amazingly created – body, mind, heart, and all – and so I praise You for me in this world.

I face the things that are not perfect. Like everyone, my own body and mind fail me. I pray today for those who have serious problems that limit their lives, especially injuries or problems that are not going to go away. In this Spina Bifida Awareness Month, my prayers are with the people and the families affected by this disabling birth defect. We are not all ‘knit together’ perfectly, but we are all put together by You. Amen.

Daily Prayer: June 22

2 Corinthians 7:4 I often boast about you; I have great pride in you; I am filled with consolation; I am overjoyed in all our affliction.

Creator, who made us adam and eve, in all our diversity and joy, you made us to be complete only when we are together: with others in family, in community, in society. Today, may I look for Your creative spark glowing in every person I meet, especially those of a different sexuality from my own. In this National Pride Month, illuminate my heart and mind.

Help me understand people with a different attitude by getting to know them. Help me understand Your guidance by getting to know You better. Help me see how salvation works in others by watching for what Christ does. And help me to be proud of others who have come to terms with who they are, and are no longer afraid to be honest. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Daily Prayer: Mon, June 21

Isaiah 40:28 Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable.

Creator, on this long, bright day, I look to You in the north wind. The clear open skies speak of Your hugeness, Your vastness, Your omnipresence. Creator, on this long, bright day, I look to You in the east wind. A season begins that promises growth and beauty, and You are alive in it all. Creator, on this long, bright day, I look to You in the south wind. There is heat and harshness in Your words, Your warnings, Your righteousness. Creator, on this long, bright day, I look to You in the west wind. Things eternal come to mind, as the shortness of my life I see before me, and the gracious promises from Jesus that are for me and millions of others.

On this National Indigenous Peoples Day, help me to give thanks, to give respect, and to give attention to all people with whom I share this land, this sea, this sky. Amen.

Worship at Home: June 20 – Digby Baptist Church Anniversary / Father’s Day

WELCOME to Digby Baptist’s Anniversary Service for 2021. Our guest preacher today is Dr. Rhonda Britton, President of our Baptist family, the Canadian Baptists of Atlantic Canada. Welcome, one and all to our online service. We plan to have our service online only on June 27 again, and then meet in person Sunday, July 4th. When we meet on the 4th, we plan to transfer and receive into membership June Haight: this is your notice of meeting for that Sunday morning.

Also on July 4th, let us take up a love offering for Pastors Roy and Lori Berteaux, who lost their Clementsport home to fire a couple weeks ago. Take a look at our bulletin, with more information for prayers, events, and services.

John 4:23-24 ~ Maggie Beveridge: Jesus declared: “the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father seeks such as these to worship him. 24 God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”

PRAYER: Almighty and everlasting God, Spirit of truth and love, we praise You! Your image is planted in us all, and we rejoice in fellowship with You now. O Master, can we have true worship when we are still so separate? While we are in our own rooms? While we are so easily distracted? Yes! You are Spirit, and You reach each of us where we are. In Christ we are made one by His gracious life and death and resurrection. So we join in worship today, sharing this service as best we can, on our Church anniversary.

So we thank and praise You for our congregation begun 183 years ago. Heavenly Father, be our loving Parent still, and guide our fellowship with care and wisdom. All this we pray, as we begin our special time today. AMEN.

The Lord’s Prayer, led by Myra Edwards:

Here is a contemporary song that we have heard here before, thanks to Joyce Marshall.

PHOTO Memories for an Anniversary Sunday…

SOLO: ‘Blessings‘ – sung by Sharon Marshall (2020)

SCRIPTURE: Luke 5:1-11

SERMON: “Go Deeper” – Rev. Dr. Rhonda Britton, President of the Canadian Baptists of Atlantic Canada, Moderator of the African United Baptist Association, Pastor of New Horizons Baptist Church, Halifax. I (Jeff White) first met her on a trip for Pastors to Bolivia, with CBM, in 2010, and have always appreciated her sense of joy and of justice.

PRAYERS – Rev. Jeff White

On this Fathers Day, this Digby Baptist Anniversary Sunday, let these suggestions guide your praying now:

Psalm 134 tells us: ‘Lift up your hands in the sanctuary and bless the LORD.’ You likely are not raising your hands. And none of us are in the sanctuary at the corner of Mount St. and Montague Row. Consider what ways you do bless the LORD. How you give thanks. What Your ways of praying to the Master are.

There are many people in trouble, of all sorts, who need help, and enter our prayers. Take a moment for each person you think of, and each situation, and ask the Spirit to help you see how to pray for this person, what to ask.

Now, rest in the presence of the Spirit of Jesus, giving thanks for the local Church. Think back to your very first memories of being at Digby Baptist Church, at whatever age you were. Give thanks for the grace and goodness God has given you in the fellowship through the years.

Pray now for the guidance of our Church, as we continue in this challenging year. And gratefully dedicate Your offerings to the Church, in the name of Jesus.

The news from our community, and around the world, is often alarming. As you pray about various situations, now, remember how great is our God. Consider how able to help God is; and how many people are deployed everywhere, and serving to make a difference, both close by and across the globe.

At last pray for yourself – what you might need, what forgiveness you seek, what joys you celebrate with Jesus. And pray also for one person you would have seen in the pews, if you had been together with others there today.

In the name of Jesus. AMEN.

HYMN # 523 Trust and Obey

BENEDICTION – God grant to the living, grace; to the departed, rest; to the Church, the Queen, Canada, and all people everywhere, peace and concord; and to us all, God’s servants, life everlasting. And grace, mercy and peace from God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, be with us all. AMEN.

Daily Prayer: Sat, June 19

Matthew 24:32 “From the fig tree learn its lesson: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts forth its leaves, you know that summer is near.”

Timeless One, whose holiness is constant, whose faithfulness is true, whose compassion is endless: Thank you for the spring, which now ends, and the lush summer that begins. The first fruits of the harvest have begun, the rhubarb, the strawberries, the haskaps, and all. The earth produces, and we are blessed. May I find blessed ways to share.

God of all energy, in this Thyroid month, I pray for folks who are affected by various thyroid diseases, who need treatment, whose lives are changed because of some problem. With Your healing, helping touch, be present. In the name of Jesus, God embodied, Amen.

Daily Prayer: Fri, June 18

Matthew 8:8 “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof; but only speak the word, and my servant will be healed.”

I bow to You, with body and soul, with mind and heart, with my life and my love. God of my days, on this new day that You have made, praise be to You, for all the amazing things to be enjoyed around me. The sights and sounds, the people and places, touch and smell, the thoughts and emotions – for all the gifts of life, thank You. All the creatures of creation join in showing Your glory, and as a team, a family on earth, we live in Your purpose for us all.

God our strength and guide: in this Stroke Awareness Month, bless those who are stroke survivors, and their families. Thanks for the amazing care and treatment there now is when people suffer a stroke, and for the ways recovery can come to them. This month, bless the work of the Heart and Stroke foundation. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
